Nurse anaesthetists

Nurse Anaesthetists are specially trained registered nurses who administer anaesthetics to patients undergoing medical, dental, and obstetrical treatment or procedures.They are an important member of the surgical team, and usually work under the direction of the attending surgeon, or doctor performing the procedure

Some of their duties include getting supplies and equipment ready for procedures, interpreting pre-surgical tests to determine the dosage and its effect on the patient, and assuring the adequate method and procedures to follow in case of an emergency and supervise the aesthesia process and be with the patient before while and after undergoing the aesthesia process and in addition to this the nurse anaesthetises administer and prescribed aesthetic measures to the team.

These nurse anaesthetists are trained to monitor the patient’s vital signs and communicate the information to the doctors responsible from time to time and maintain a record of it. The duty of the nurse anaesthetists  is to perform other tasks during these medical procedures, these medical procedures can be inserting artificial airways, administering oxygen, and attempting to prevent surgical shock.

The duty of the Nurse Anaesthetists is to explain the procedures to patients as this can be an effort to secure cooperation and increase confidence in the procedure. The position of nurse anaesthetist is coupled with an extraordinary amount of responsibility, and looking at the duties they perform, they are one of the highest paid nursing specialties and the specialty of candidate nursing is that he/she should be intelligent, able to solve problems quickly, and able to handle stressful situations at the Work Environment.

The Nurse anaesthetists usually work in a hospital operating room, and work in birthing centres, dental offices, emergency rooms, plastic surgery centres, obstetrics departments and outpatient surgery facilities.

To enter the field the candidates need to start for its preparation for it in High School and the Students interested in a career as a nurse anaesthetist should take courses in biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, sociology, nutrition and medical professions education, physical education, English, computer knowledge. After completion of the high school education the candidates need to get trained in the College education and fulfil the requirements by applying for the nurse anaesthetist program after completing the graduation in nursing, be a licensed registered nurse and have at least one year of critical-care nursing experience.

To become a Certified Registered Nurse Anaesthetist an individual must complete an accredited program and pass a national certification exam. They must also be recertifying the certification every two years through continuing education programs and keep up with the training developments and contact the state licencing agency as the norms differ from state to state.
