Nurse practitioner job description

Nurse Practitioners are nurses with advanced degrees and there job is to take on a variety of duties in care settings focused around the nursing model and are generally able to write prescriptions, attend patients with or without doctor, prescribe medications, performing diagnostics and examinations, ordering labs tests, diagnose and heal the patient.

Nursing Careerof a registered nurse practitioner was introduced in the medical field 1960s. Nurse practitioners are nurses who a Bachelors of Science in nursing. And the certification is based on the scope of practice as each state regulates the role of a nurse practitioner. In some states, nurse practitioners work under doctors, while other states allow nurses to practice without a doctor’s supervision, in some states the nurse practitioner are allowed to work only under the supervision of the doctor and some states have a prescription rights allotted to the nurse practitioner and in certain states, nurse practitioners have prescription rights, some other states require a nurse practitioner to write prescriptions and to be supervised by a doctor.

Generally the Nurse practitioners duties focuses on holistic patient care, including health promotion and behaviour change and reporting it to he doctor from time to time and maintain a record of the changes and the developments.

 

Some Nurse practitioners perform routine medical procedures, including minor surgery such as suturing. They also take patient histories and interact with patients.

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing has recommended that all programs switch to doctoral programs by 2015. And now days the nursing programs are generally switching to a doctoral nursing program, which means that people becoming nurse practitioners will have to earn a Doctor of Nursing Practice this makes the job of the Nurse Practitioners and requires a doctor to co-sign prescriptions and they can practice and prescribe without doctor supervision as they can spend more time with their patients. The nurse practitioner job emphasises disease prevention, reduction of health risks, participate in education, research, improve the quality of health care providing services, teach other health care members at the workplace and maintain close working relationships at workplace.
